Solomon’s precepts

Posted on January 27, 2008. Filed under: EDUC 628 |

Solomon’s 4 precepts are very interesting and also quite true in most situations. This will always exist in every facet of our existance. However, it can also be about perspectives. First of all, I’d like to say that there will always be some type of inequality in who has access to the latest technology, software, hardware, and connectivity. This does not necessarily mean that if a student has access from school that they do not have an opportunity to use the same resources on line as those who have the latest, up to date tools and resources at home. Granted their time is more limited but they do have access… .

They suggest that all students don’t have access to culturally responsive content and opportunity to contribute to that content. If students are able to access the web they are able to access the language needed, the culturally related resources are available and reachable online.

Students have access to educators who are trained to use the digital tools and resources. Students in some schools are way ahead of the teachers in technology knowledge however at this time most school systems are getting on board with training teachers on the use of the new tools and toys they have acquired. It looks like there will be some cutbacks on this soon. However, at this time I feel like most districts are trying to offer some training for the teachers who want it. There will always be those few who don’t want to change and eventually they will move on and make room for the new technology trained teachers.

Some students don’t have access to systems whose leaders support the new tech tools and want to invest in this growth. Nevertheless, the changes are occurring and slowly but surely, the changes will happen in spite of the slow moving districts to change. The inequalities will always exist in some form in all elements of life but there will always be a way to make changes.

There will always be a way to get access. It may not be exactly what you may want, but you will have it. That’s one problem some people. They focus to much on what they desire instead of what they need. I don’t have the best hardware on my computer, but it gets me what I want when I need it. Look at what will get you access first and build from there.

Good points Lee! How was the concert?
